SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 37

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to study voluntary crop growing standards.

    Whereas, Agriculture is very important to the state’s economy; and

    Whereas, There are over 23,000 farmers in the state; and

    Whereas, There has never been a study tracking the crops to larger markets; and

    Whereas, There has never been a study of the impact of incorporating West Virginia produce into school meals; and

    Whereas, There does not exist a uniform crop growing standard within the Department of Agriculture; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That the Legislature hereby requests the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to study voluntary crop growing standards; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to study the share of the market that the West Virginia growers occupy within the statewide food sales; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to study the feasability and fiscal impact of incorporating West Virginia produce and products into school meals; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to study potential impact of expanding the West Virginia Grown Program; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2013, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
